Medical assistant

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and filing patients' medical records, filling out insurance forms, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for hospital admission and laboratory services, and handling billing and bookkeeping.

SALARY: The median annual Medical Assistant salary is $33,330, as of December 28, 2016, with a range usually between $30,731-$35,985, however this can vary widely depending on a variety of factors.

EDUCATION:The minimum education for a medical assistant is a high school diploma. However, some states require training or examinations for those who do clinical work, and some employers prefer assistants with training or certification.

DEMAND: Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 23 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. The growth of the aging baby-boom population will continue to increase demand for preventive medical services, which are often provided by physicians.

REFLECTION:

I wouldn’t like to be a medical assistant because the job seems boring.
