COLUMBUS DAY

Many people celebrate columbus day while others believe that Columbus Day should not be celebrated because Christopher Columbus committed atrocities against Native Americans. They argue that it creates a false narrative about the discovery of the Americas and contributes to the disenfranchisement of Native Americans. I personally believe that columbus day should not be celebrated. Another reason why not to celebrate columbus day is because columbus was not the first to step on the americas it was the vikings.Columbus enslaved the native populations of the Caribbean in gold mines and other work. He enforced his rules using brutal methods, including cutting off their hands if they did not work enough.Columbus was sick when torturing the native populations of the caribbean. Contemporary accounts mention his men killing and raping for fun, and Columbus tacitly supporting it.Columbus should not be honored, the many people hurt during that time period should be remembered.What columbus did was considered a genocide since his people would go out killing, torturing,and raping the native americans for fun.
